Baltimore Ravens Lineman & Detroit Native Carl Davis Hosts Cleanup Day in Detroit

DETROIT, MI- Baltimore Ravens lineman Carl Davis is back in Detroit to help make a difference in the lives of kids in his hometown.  The 26-year-old NFL pro has three events planned to uplift inner-city kids this offseason, starting with a badly needed renovation of his old football stomping grounds.

Davis will kick-off his hometown give back with a Cleanup Day on Saturday, May 5, 2018, from 8am-2pm, to revitalize the dilapidated football field and surrounding area adjacent to his childhood alma matter; McKenzie Elementary-Middle School.

McKenzie’s football field, located at 10147 West Chicago in Detroit, was built for the former MacKenzie High School, but shortly after the field was completed the high school was torn down, and the field was left for vandals.

Davis, who has already begun recruiting Cleanup Day volunteers, is looking for at least 100 volunteers on May 5 to help him clean up debris, make repairs and revitalize the football field at McKenzie for K-8 athletes.  Anyone wishing to volunteer to help Carl on Cleanup Day can sign up via email at EventsB1M@gmail.com.

“It’s important to me that children in Detroit know that they matter to me,” said Davis. “Here’s a whole group of kids and young athletes attending my old school (McKenzie), with a football field right next to them, that have to travel all over the city for field time, because the field is completely unusable in its present state.  The Cleanup Day restoration is one way I can help create better opportunities for these kids to succeed, while letting them know they are cared about and supported.”

The 6’5, 327-pound Baltimore Ravens defensive end will also be hosting a free Youth Football and Education Camp for local kids on June 23, 2018, and a free Community Day on June 30, 2018, at the newly renovated field.

Davis, who grew up on Detroit’s west side, founded his own non-profit, called the Trenchwork Foundation, in 2017 to focus on community redevelopment in Detroit, and create healthy living, educational, and community opportunities for children in his hometown.

About the Trenchwork Foundation

The Trenchwork Foundation was founded by Baltimore Ravens’ defensive end Carl Davis in 2017. Carl came from one of Detroit’s most disadvantaged neighborhoods.  During his early childhood the area was healthy and thriving, but due to the loss of jobs, the increase in crime, and lack of other essential resources, people began to flee the city.  From this came Carl’s inspiration for the Trenchwork Foundation, with a mission to “Build a Community” and to rejuvenate Detroit’s toughest areas into a thriving community full of opportunities.

Davis is very active and passionate about giving back to the Baltimore and Detroit communities.  In the past year, Davis and the Trenchwork Foundation have brought Baltimore Ravens players and police officers together to visit schools and community centers in West Baltimore to talk with kids to help build a better relationship between the community and the police, donated and sponsored new equipment, book bags and gear to the Westside Steelers of Detroit, donated gym bags and book bags to Cody High School students in Detroit, and, along with Brandon Jackson, founder of Greatness Camp, partnered for a Day of Service that entailed providing a local Walmart shopping spree and lunch for Detroit area youth, and distributing backpacks and donations to the area Police Athletic League football teams.

Tech Startup Hosts Free Run for Office Bootcamp for Potential Candidates in Detroit

Crowdpac’s experts will teach the secrets to crowdfunding a campaign ahead of filing deadline

DETROIT, MI — Today, the nonpartisan political crowdfunding startup Crowdpac announced a free evening bootcamp on March 29th in Detroit designed to teach citizens how to run for office and win in the digital age. The program will feature a panel of experts who will walk citizens through the process of exploring a campaign using the latest technology that is helping thousands of candidates run for office across the country.

Michigan’s April 24th filing deadline is rapidly approaching, but there’s still plenty of time for candidates to explore a run for office. Crowdpac’s platform was recently profiled by NPRFast Company and Roll Call for the way it applies innovative crowdfunding technology to help first-time candidates fund their campaigns.

“The single-biggest challenge any candidate faces when they run for office is raising money,” said Mason Harrison, Crowdpac’s Head of Communications. “In this seminar, we’ll teach citizens the basics of exploring a run for office and raising the money they need to actually win.”

Crowdfund Your Run for Office will be held at WeWork Merchant’s Row, located at 1449 Woodward Avenue in Detroit. Networking, drinks, and refreshments will begin at 5:30 PM followed by an interactive presentation and discussion from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. While the event is free, space is limited and RSVPs are required to attend. #MotownWriters: In case you were wondering when the #Eclipse2017 happens in #Detroit…

Someone asked me as if I knew it. I googled it and found this.

I’m glad cause I’ll be off of work, but I’m kind of reminded about the movie, Night of the Comet.

Now I know a comet and eclipse are two different things. Yet, their both astrological events that happen and just like the movie everyone is excited to view them.

I’m a writer. A fiction writer at that so I tend to believe in the crazy than the realistic.

Just saying…
