Detroit’s Eastside:
 Moving Ahead
313 571 – 2800
The Eastside Community Network (ECN) is “people driven” and
“growth determined.”  Since 1990, it has motivated and initiated positive transformation of Detroit’s east side.  As Educational Arts Society’s COO Dr. Mamie Smith listened to the voice of ECN Director  of Community Organizing and Planning Angela Wilson, she heard goal direction, confidence, self-reliance and we are proud of the work we are doing, but we know…the job is not done.
Walking around the website of ECN, one sees positive signs of the organization’s purpose: positive change in neighborhoods, engagement of residents, leadership development, and youth attraction.  It advocates “sustainable development” through:
  • Quality Education
  • Diversity Inclusion
  • Community Connectivity
  • Re-Purposing Vacant Land
  • Healthy Families
Smith was motivated to attend the next Meeting!  ECN’s impact on the east side has been steady and recognizable.  They demonstrate that  “communities grow as people grow.”
