(DETROIT, MI; March 8, 2018)— The team behind Ferndale’s successful seafood spot Voyager opens their second restaurant Lovers Only in Detroit’s Capitol Park neighborhood. Proprietor Eli Boyer, alongside Co-Executive Chefs Jennifer Jackson and Justin Tootla, unveil their concept at 34 W. Grand River Ave. with an approachable and nostalgic menu and thoughtful service. Following in Voyager’s footsteps, the restaurant will provide the same heartfelt hospitality guests have come to expect, but in a fast casual setting. “Our aim is to add layers to quick service so that our guests truly feel that they’ve been taken care of when they visit, not only fed,” says Boyer.
Chefs Jennifer Jackson and Justin Tootla craft burgers and sandwiches that draw from their rich culinary experience—as well as family memories—to create a menu that not only delivers deliciousness, but a story as well. Each burger uses a special grind of 100% pasture-raised Michigan beef from local butcher Farm Field Table , as well as its own unique bun or bread. Inspired by a trip Jackson and Tootla took through Wisconsin, the Burlington tops a beef patty with dijonnaise, twice-cooked onions, pickle relish, and Wisconsin-style cheddar cheese sauce on a brioche bun, while the Classic Smash presents a more modest approach to the burger with a smashed beef patty, mayo, mustard, onion, and lettuce. Chef Jackson’s Southern charm shows through in the Extern which draws from a quirky family tradition of serving cold fried chicken sandwiches (topped with house slaw and white barbeque sauce).
Lovers Only’s beverage program keeps things simple with a curated list craft draft beers, as well as a variety of draft cocktails. A fast favorite from the cocktail menu is the House Punch made with rum, Aperol, Chambord, lemon, honey, and mint – perfect for pairing with a burger or on its own at the bar. The interior of Lovers Only reflects the classic appeal of its menu with vintage-inspired design. Round avocado banquettes and quirky patterned wallpaper with a cowboy motif play against sleek tile and brushed brass. A variety of globe lights and large front windows brighten the space and provide an expansive view of the bustling Capitol Park neighborhood.
“We’re thrilled that our vision for Lovers Only has come to fruition, and we can’t wait to share our independently-owned burger joint with the Detroit community. Care, craftsmanship, hospitality is at the core of everything we do, and that shines through in every element of this restaurant,” says Proprietor Eli Boyer.
